Mohajir Times: Sahar Emami, a talented journalist and presenter from Iran’s state broadcaster IRIB, has been named the recipient of the prestigious Simón Bolívar Journalism Award at a grand international ceremony. This award, renowned as a symbol of resistance, enlightenment, and the unwavering voice of the media in the face of violence and repression, honors not only Emami’s personal bravery but also the vigilant conscience of journalism that remains the voice of nations during their darkest hours.
In a special gesture, Nicolás Maduro, President of Venezuela, personally presented the award to Sahar Emami—a woman who, on the day of Israel’s airstrike on the IRIB Glass Building in Tehran, remained on-screen with full composure, reporting on the unfolding conflict. While delivering a live news broadcast, Emami heard the explosion but did not pause for a moment. With a calm demeanor and a clear, unwavering voice, she continued her reporting—right up to the moment the final blast struck and the bomb hit its target. Her exceptional poise sparked a wave of admiration, respect, and emotional resonance both nationally and internationally.
The International Simón Bolívar Journalism Award is presented annually in Colombia to journalists who, under extreme circumstances, remain true to their mission and continue to raise the banner of freedom of expression. Due to the extraordinary circumstances this year, the award was received on Emami’s behalf by Ali Chegini, the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Venezuela.
Simón Bolívar, the namesake of the award, was a heroic figure in the fight for South American independence and a revolutionary leader whose efforts led to the liberation of countries such as Venezuela, Colombia, Peru, Ecuador, and Bolivia from Spanish colonial rule. His vision of unity among Latin American nations has forever tied his name to the ideals of liberty, resilience, and idealism.
And now, Sahar Emami stands among the distinguished recipients of this award as a powerful emblem of journalistic resistance. The harrowing and intense moments she courageously endured have become a living testament to her commitment, her love for truth, and her unshakable dedication to the calling of journalism—a calling that does not falter, even in the face of bombs.
