Tragic Death of Afghan Migrant Girl After Rape Allegation—Suspect Caught Trying to Cross Border
On the day of the incident, the carwash supervisor entered the room where the girl was resting and raped her
According to Mohajir Times, Quoting Criminal Department Site: The case surrounding the suspicious death of an 18-year-old Afghan girl—whose family claims she was murdered—has entered a new phase following the arrest of a 23-year-old Afghan suspect in the city of Mashhad. Extensive investigations by Tehran’s Criminal Police and the Eleventh Branch of the Criminal Court have revealed complex dimensions to the case, including a failed suicide attempt, allegations of sexual assault, alcohol consumption, and the girl’s mysterious death.
The investigation began when the girl's Afghan family reported her suspicious death to the Tehran Criminal Court. According to the family, days before her death, she had been taken to a hospital after a suspected suicide attempt. “We were out of the house that day,” they said. “When we returned, we found her in distress, collapsed in a corner. We rushed her to the hospital, where doctors said she had narrowly survived.”
The family added that after a partial recovery, she returned home. However, three days later, claiming she had something urgent to take care of, she left the house and never came back. Hours later, the family received a call from a hospital in Tehran informing them that their daughter had been found in critical condition by a passerby near the Khaniabad area. Despite medical efforts, she had passed away.
Due to the sudden and unexplained nature of her death, the family suspected foul play and raised the possibility of murder. A case was opened at the Eleventh Branch of the Criminal Court, and Judge Mousa Rezazadeh ordered a full-scale investigation. During inquiries, it was discovered that the girl's boyfriend—also an Afghan national—had died by suicide several days before her own death, further complicating the case.
The investigation took a critical turn when Mashhad police contacted Tehran authorities, reporting the arrest of a 23-year-old Afghan man who was living illegally in Mashhad. He was stopped during a transfer to a deportation camp and, during a routine inspection, officers found a disturbing photo on his phone showing an unconscious girl. The suspicious state of the girl in the image raised concerns of a serious crime, possibly murder. Upon questioning, the man admitted the photo had been taken in Tehran, prompting Mashhad police to alert their counterparts in the capital.
Tehran police identified the girl in the photo as the same 18-year-old who had died in the hospital. The suspect, who was on the verge of deportation, was transferred to Tehran for interrogation. During questioning, he claimed he knew the girl but denied involvement in her death. He said he worked at a carwash in Tehran and alleged that the carwash supervisor—also an Afghan national—had raped the girl, and that he had taken the photo after rape himself.
The suspect explained: “After her boyfriend’s suicide, she felt responsible and came to the carwash to talk to me. She said she had broken up with him for someone else and now blamed herself for his death. I offered her friendship to help her out of that mental state. On the day of the incident, the carwash supervisor entered the room where the girl was resting and raped her. I saw him leaving the room and found her unconscious and half-naked, so I took a photo and kept it on my cellphone.”
He further claimed that about half an hour later, the girl regained consciousness and realized she had been assaulted. He offered to take her away from the carwash, and in an attempt to calm her down, he and two others consumed alcohol with her near Khaniabad. Her condition deteriorated after drinking and she lost consciousness. According to him, they intended to take her to a hospital, but her condition worsened, so they left her on the street and called emergency medical services.
The suspect added that he fled to Mashhad out of fear and was arrested there. He also claimed the girl may have consumed another substance before drinking, or that the rapist might have drugged her, which could have reacted fatally with the alcohol.
Currently, Judge Mousa Rezazadeh has issued an order to identify and locate the individuals mentioned by the suspect, and the investigation remains ongoing.
